DATE: December 14, 2011- COUNTRY: United States – PORT: Houston, Texas – Dense fog in Houston Shipping Canal
Houston Pilots are still not boarding any vessels in the Houston Shipping
Canal, after boarding was halted due to heavy fog at 0805 hours yesterday
(13 December). According to the pilot list at 1200 today (14 December) there were 27
inbound and 23 outbound ships delayed. Meanwhile, the Galveston/Texas City Ship Channel reopened to traffic at 05:30 hours.

DATE: December 14, 2011 – COUNTRY: United State – PORT: Oakland, California – Port operations returning to normal
Maritime operations were reported to be returning to normal at the Port of
Oakland yesterday (Tuesday, 13 December) after a day of port disruptions
and protests up and down the US West Coast. Demonstrators who had staged a 24 hour protest on 12 December have left the port and work is underway to clear the backlog.

Although the port was not closed during the protests, no ships were loaded or unloaded. However, yard and gate operations at some terminals continued for cargo that had already been unloaded.

DATE: December 14, 2011 – COUNTRY: Australia – PORT: Sydney – Svitzer port tariff review
Svitzer has advised that from 13 January 2012, their lines and launches
tariff at Sydney’s Port Jackson will increase by 5%. This follows a tariff review for Port Jackson (including Gore Cove).
