The Director of Doha Port has advised that the pilotage service to and from the port will now be provided 24/7 (around the clock).

DATE: February 16, 2012  -COUNTRY: Hong Kong – PORT: Hong Kong – Trimming of underwater high spots 

For approximately 4 months, trimming operations for underwater high spots will be carried out [south of Cheung Chau] in the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum): (A) 22º 09.382’N / 114º 00.452’E (B) 22º 09.382’N / 114º 01.092’E (C) 22º 09.220’N / 114º 01.092’E (D) 22º 09.220’N / 114º 00.452’E
The works will be carried out by one grab dredger. One tug, one hopper barge and one guard boat will provide assistance.
A working area of approximately 50 metres around the dredger will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the dredger.
The hours of work will be round-the-clock. The vessels employed for the works will stay in the works area outside the hours of work.
Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.
Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

DATE: February 16, 2012 – COUNTRY: Australia – PORT: Port Kembla – Further stoppages in coal terminal industrial dispute

Further stoppages have been announced as part of the ongoing industrial dispute at Port Kembla Coal Terminal (PKCT), as follows:

  • 1) 2 hours commencing 07:00 Monday 20 February
  • 2) 4 hours commencing 17:00 Monday 20 February
  • 3) 4 hours commencing 05:00 Tuesday 21 February
  • 4) 4 hours commencing 17:00 Tuesday 21 February

The above stoppages are for meetings between the mining union (CFMEU) and the workforce at the start of each shift for 20 & 21 February.
During the stoppages there will be no vessel loading or cargo delivery at the terminal.

DATE: February 16, 2012 – COUNTRY: Australia – PORT: Melbourne – Hume and Murray tower refurbishment

The Port of Melbourne Corporation has advised that refurbishment works for the Hume and Murray towers at Port Phillip will be conducted from 20 February to 2 March 2012.
According to the Victorian Notice to Mariners No.030(T)-2012 dated 13 February 2012, the towers are to be replaced with new towers as follows: – Hume tower from Monday 20 Feb to Friday 24 Feb – Murray tower from Monday 27 Feb to Friday 2 Mar.
Each of the lights will be extinguished for a period of 5 days and on completion of the refurbishment work each of the lights will be restored to its original characteristics.
Mariners are advised to navigate with caution in the vicinity of Heads during the period of works.
