A maritime security alert has been issued for the Arabian Sea after a merchant vessel was reported hijacked in position 15:01N – 054:56E at 1206 local time on 28 February.

The attack occurred roughly 120NM south of Salalah, Oman and 145NM north east of Socotra. Further details were unavailable at the time of writing.

Three attempted attacks or suspicious approaches were recorded at various points along Oman’s southern coast line in the last 24 hours.

Vessel operators should remain on high alert when transiting the area, particularly in the vicinity of the eastern limit of the IRTC. Watch rotas and procedures in line with BMP4 should be employed to reduce the chances of a successful pirate attack.
