In light of the international financial recession, the continuing shipping crisis, the local political instability and the forthcoming national elections; the departing WISTA Hellas Board of Directors considered it more prudent to hold a low-key get-together rather than the usual gala dinner.

The Charity Cocktail Party took place at the St. George Lycabettus Hotel, Grand Balcon on Friday, March 30, 2012. Members, their associates and friends mingled with their peers on this social occasion dedicated not only to raising funds for chosen charities, but also to continuing the WISTA Hellas tradition of regularly networking and catching up with old friends. For a few hours worries about the current problems were replaced by pleasant and useful discussions.

The Grand Balcon, offering splendid views of Athens by night below, showcased dance presentations from Greece and abroad to the delight of all present. This vibrant evening once again confirmed the continuing support of the members for the efforts of WISTA Hellas, a respected association of the local shipping cluster for over twenty years.

It was announced that, after four years of continuous involvement by Anna-Maria Monogioudi and Jenny Pournara in the positions of the President and Vice President respectively, both had decided not to run for re-election at the forthcoming meeting, thus giving the opportunity for new candidates to be elected. Both Eugenia Saridou, secretary and Maria Alexandraki, treasurer also decided not to continue on the Board and took the opportunity to introduce the new candidates. Only Eleftheria Magiafi from the present Board will re-apply.

Interesting discussions were held on planned future WISTA Hellas activities and views were actively exchanged throughout the evening.

  • “The Child’s Smile” (www.hamogelo.gr)
  • Hellenic      Maritime Museum

During the event information was also provided on the activities of the non-profit organization “Synehizo” (www.synehizo.gr)* , an association dedicated to raising public awareness over the issue of organ donations and transplants.

*Synehizo in English means to continue.
