- India, New Mangalore – Channel draft restriction
DATE: May 10, 2012 – COUNTRY: India – PORT: New Mangalore – Channel draft restriction
New Mangalore Port Trust has imposed a draft restriction in the port’s channel following the discovery of about 300 metres of pipe in the channel.
During Mangalore Economical Special Zone operations to tow a 1200-metre long pipe from Ullal to Mukka, divers found about 300 metres of pipe lying across the port channel. At Zero tide, the pipe is at a depth of about 11.80 metres.
The draft in the channel has been reduced to 11.70 metres due to the sinkage of the pipeline.
As of now affected vessels are crude carriers.
