DATE: June 26, 2012 – COUNTRY: Nigeria – PORT: Port Harcourt Port operations halted by protest 

Work came to a halt at Port Harcourt Area 1 yesterday (25 June) after ex-Nigeria Ports Authority employees barricaded all access roads as part of a long-running dispute over pensions and gratuities.

Workers are threatening to continue to strike today if no progress is made on reaching an agreement.

The action is only affecting Port Harcourt.

DATE: June 26, 2012 – COUNTRY: Australia – PORT: Gladstone – Eight-day tug strike planned 

Unions manning the tugs at Gladstone have announced 8 consecutive days of 24 hour work stoppages, commencing at 1900 hours on Friday (29 June).

Unless a resolution to the dispute can be reached, this will effectively close the port and bring coal exports to a halt.

DATE: June 26, 2012 – COUNTRY: Panama – PORT: Panama Canal – Security Service Tariff increase

Effective July 1, 2012, the [Panama Canal Security Service] tariffs that will be charged are as follows:

Type of vessel: Vessels that pay minimum tolls; based on PC/UMS tons and have less than 3, 000 PC/UMS net tons and vessels that pay tolls based on fully loaded displacement tons and have less than 5, 392 displacement tons. Tariff per transit: $130.00

Type of vessel: Vessels that pay tolls based on PC/UMS net tons and have 3, 000 PC/UMS tons or more and vessels that pay tolls based on fully loaded displacement tons and have 5, 392 displacement tons or more. This tariff is applicable to all full container vessels. Tariff per transit: $1, 000.00
