Katharina Stanzel takes over as INTERTANKO’s new Managing Director on 1 July – the fifth Managing Director since the Association started out in 1970. She joined INTERTANKO in 2010 as Deputy Managing Director, coming from the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds) where she was Claims Manager and Technical Advisor to the Director.

“I look forward to leading the Secretariat of this great Association, ” says Stanzel, “working with our excellent team in house and using the strong support and close links with our Members to represent their interests, giving them a voice in forums right round the world, and making sure that independent tanker owners are seen and heard.

“Seeing the accelerating pace of regulation, we will continue to proactively influence decision makers, build crucial networks and aim to be the preferred industry partner for legislators, our Members’ clients and other stakeholders. Times are challenging for the tanker industry, but we will rise to the occasion and continue to make a difference for our Members where it counts.”

Last month, INTERTANKO’s Council unanimously confirmed her promotion to the top job. “Kathi’s vision, dedication and commitment to INTERTANKO and its Members will be invaluable as she takes over the leadership of our first-class international shipping association”, said the Association’s Chairman Graham Westgarth.

Joe Angelo steps down as Managing Director and returns to his previous post as Deputy Managing Director and Director for Regulatory Affairs and the Americas.
