HELMEPA announces that Germanischer Lloyd has certified its latest course titled “Marine Environmental Awareness”, which the Association has been offering its members since the beginning of 2012. The module was designed by HELMEPA’s Maritime Training Centre according to the requirements of the STCW International Convention and the related International Maritime Organization’s (IMO’s) Model Course.

This course is mandatory for those seafarers who are due to begin their maritime service or their training on or after 1st July 2013. HELMEPA will therefore continue to offer both the course on a more intensive schedule to the Human Resources staff of its member-companies and the knowledge it has gained over the course of all these years with respect to the correlation between “ship and environment”.

HELMEPA will now seek to have its seminar recognized by the Flag States of its member vessels so that it will have the ability to issue the required Certificate. Indeed, to cater for the needs of its members, the Association will timetable more modules of this category for 2013, including additional seminars in the second half of 2012 – separate to those two already programmed, depending on the prevailing conditions.
