Specialist appointed official shipping and logistics services provider GAC Pindar has been awarded a contract as the official shipping and logistics services provider to the historic Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club from July 2012 through to December 2015.

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club will host a number of international sailing regattas over the next couple of years, including the World Sailing Championships for the Flying Fifteens and Etchells classes in 2013 and 2015. Under the agreement, GAC Pindar will provide a full range of operational capabilities to manage the movement and transportation of yachts for those competing in events at the Club, as well as general marine leisure craft of its members. GAC Pindar will also play a significant role in several other major regattas, including the Rolex China Sea Race.

GAC Pindar will work closely with and draw on the local expertise and resources of GAC Hong Kong to meet the needs of the Yacht Club. Alwyn Mendonca, GAC Hong Kong’s Managing Director, says: “This appointment is a perfect way to demonstrate our capabilities in serving the complex marine sport and leisure sector. We’ve been working hard to develop tailor-made services to respond to the demands of the yachting world and meet the specific needs of individual customers.”

Andrew Pindar, Director of GAC Pindar, adds: “We look forward to serving the Club, its members and those who bring their boats to compete in the events it organises. The emblem of GAC Pindar is the Arctic Tern, a loyal, hard working bird that migrates further than any other. We shall proudly bring those traits to our partnership with the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, as we offer our skills and service in the migration of boats for its members.”

Mark Bovaird, Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club General Manager, says: “We have been aiming to partner with a reputable shipping/logistics company for some time, given our desire to increase the number of overseas entries in our major events. The addition of the World Sailing Championships to our calendar of events in 2013 and 2015 heightened the need for such an alliance and we are very happy to have come to this agreement with GAC Pindar.

“GAC Pindar has proven its expertise with the transportation of boats during events such as the Extreme 40 Sailing Series and World Match Racing Tour. They are a welcome addition to our valued roster of commercial partners and sponsors, and this relationship is sure to benefit our members and visitors alike!”
