Germany official country partner of first ever WTM Latin America

The German National Tourist Board is to extend its long running relationship with World Travel Market, the leading global event for the travel industry, by becoming an official country partner of the first World Travel Market Latin America. 

“This partnership sends out a message for the 2013/14 Germany Year in Brazil and strengthens the already excellent relations between our two countries. Destination Germany is becoming increasingly popular with Brazilian travellers, as shown by the upward trend in the volume of overnight stays, ” said Ernst Burgbacher, Member of the German Parliament, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology and Federal Government Commissioner for SMEs andTourism.

Brazil is becoming a major source market for tourists coming in to Europe and the GNTB is looking to utilise its partnership with WTM Latin America – which takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazilfrom 23 to 25 April 2013 – to further increase the number of Brazilian tourists visiting Germany.

“For the first five months of 2012 overnight stays by Brazilians in Germanyhave increased by 26% to 260, 600, compared to the same period in 2011. For thefull 12 months of 2011, Brazilian overnight stays in Germany increased by 22% to 587, 000 compared to 2010 – which was a massive 42% up on the previous 12months, ” said Petra Hedorfer, Chief Executive Officer of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB).

On average Brazilian visitors spent 14 nights in Germany spending an average of 209 Euros a night, with Berlin and Bavaria their favourite destinations.

“The region is enjoying spectacular growth. The World Travel & Tourism Council forecasts the number of tourists will grow from 33, 127, 000 in 2011 to 55, 191, 000 in 2021, when they are predicted to be spending an estimated $70.8 billion, ” he added.

WTM Latin America, a three-day B2B event for Leisure, MICEand Business Travel, brings the world to Latin America and promotes Latin America to the world. It will be targeting over 1, 000 exhibitors and expecting more than 7, 000 visitors with the majority coming from Latin America. A series of seminars and forums will also run alongside the exhibition covering the threetarget sectors as well as travel topics focusing on the local market.
