Soil investigation works are being carried out at Benoi Basin from today (5 October) until 20 November.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Marine Notice No.142 of 2012 dated 3 October 2012, the works will be conducted 24 hours daily – including Sundays & Public Holidays – at the following marine borehole co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum): PCBH 07) 1° 17.962’N / 103° 40.969’E PCBH 08) 1° 18.119’N / 103° 40.948’E PCBH 09) 1° 18.294’N / 103° 40.949’E PCBH 10) 1° 18.454’N / 103° 40.927’E
Soil investigation works will be carried out by means of borehole drilling using jack-up barge. The jack-up barge, with tug boats in attendance, will have a circular safety working zone of 30 meters radius centered at the barge.
Tugboats will be used for shifting the barges from one borehole location to another.
A safety boat will be deployed in the vicinity of the working area to warn other craft of the project work.
Craft involved in the works will exhibit the appropriate local and international day and night signals.
When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to: (a) Keep well clear and not to enter the safety zone of the barge; (b) Maintain a proper lookout; (c) Proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution; (d) Maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 22 (Jurong Control); and (e) Communicate with Jurong Control on VHF Channel 22 for assistance, if required.

The 2012 Kusu Pilgrimage season will commence on 15 Oct 12 and end on 13 Nov 12. During this period, many ferries and harbour craft carrying passengers would cross the East Keppel Fairway when plying between the Marina South Pier and Kusu Island (Pulau Tembakul)… …Mariners shall keep a proper lookout for these craft and navigate with extra caution when in the vicinity of the recommended routes. Traffic movement within Marina South Pier has been divided in two routes. The ferries and bumboats shall use the recommended routes…
Masters of harbour craft shall proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution when approaching Marina South Pier and Kusu Island jetties.
The following buoys were laid on 27 Aug 12 and will be removed on 14 Nov 12:
(a) Yellow polyethylene buoy 01° 13.526’N / 103° 51.427’E Channel buoy/”Kusu Marker A”
(b) Red can buoy Fl (2) R10s. 01° 13.236’N / 103° 51.697’E Port hand buoy/”Kusu Buoy” Fl (2) R10s
(c) Yellow polyethylene buoy 01° 13.376’N / 103° 51.457’E For mooring of craft (off Pulau Sakijang)/”Kusu Marker C”
(d) Yellow polyethylene buoy 01° 13.406’N / 103° 51.437’E For mooring of craft (off Pulau Sakijang)/”Kusu Marker B”
All harbour craft, except ferries operated by Singapore Island Cruise and Ferries Pte Ltd, plying to and from Kusu Island (Pulau Tembakul) shall: (a) keep within the channel demarcated by the Kusu Beacon (Fl R 2.5s) and the yellow polyethylene channel buoy in position Lat 01° 13′.526N Long 103° 51′.427E when approaching and leaving Kusu Jetty; (b) only use the harbour craft jetty at Kusu Island (Pulau Tembakul) for the purpose of embarking and disembarking passengers. This harbour craft jetty is located about 65 metres northwest of the Main Passenger jetty. All these harbour craft must not proceed beyond 10 metres southeast of their allocated jetty. To avoid traffic congestion in the vicinity, no harbour craft shall wait at the entrance of the channel or at the jetty.
The two yellow polyethylene mooring buoys located off Pulau Sakijang Pelepah, are meant for harbour craft to moor temporarily while awaiting passengers.
