Lock gates for the Panama Canal arrived yestraday (August 20, 2013)
Advances of the gates for the Panama Canal
The first four gates of the new locks of the Panama Canal expansion, which are being built in Italy, arrived today in Panama.
At the end of 2013, all 16 doors should be in Panama.
The steel structures are being constructed by the company CIMOLAI in their workshops located in Polcenigo, Italy.
About 50, 000 tons of steel will be used for their construction.
The gates will be brought to Panama in an upright position on a barge in groups of four. To unload them, special piers are being built on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
