Marine Site Investigation off Tai Ho Wan, Lantau Island
For approximately 2 months, marine site investigation works involving
drilling of boreholes for the Tuen Mun – Chek Lap Kok Link will be carried
out within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following
co-ordinates (WGS84 Datum) from (A) to (F) and the adjacent shoreline:
(A) 22 deg. 17.962’N / 113 deg. 58.087’E
(B) 22 deg. 18.157’N / 113 deg. 58.170’E
(C) 22 deg. 18.503’N / 113 deg. 57.564’E
(D) 22 deg. 18.596’N / 113 deg. 57.669’E
(E) 22 deg. 18.226’N / 113 deg. 58.287’E
(F) 22 deg. 18.157’N / 113 deg. 58.549’E
The works will be carried out by two flat top barges. One tug and one motor
boat will provide assistance.
A working area of approximately 50 metres will be established around each
barge. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid
to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the barges.
The hours of work will be from 0700 to 1900 hours. No work will be carried
out on Sundays and public holidays. Vessels employed for the works will
stay in the works area outside the hours of work.
Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in
international and local regulations.
Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

Codes of Practice issued
The following Codes of Practice (COP) have been issued by the Director of
Marine under the Shipping and Port Control Ordinance (Cap 313) and the
Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) Ordinance (Cap 548) by notification in
the Gazette on 16 August 2013:
Code of Practice – Shipboard Container Handling on Vessels (2ndEdition –
September 2013);
Code of Practice – Shipboard Container Handling on Local Vessels (2nd
Edition – September 2013);
Code of Practice – Working in Confined Space on Vessels (October 2013
Edition);
and
Code of Practice – Working in Confined Space on Local Vessels (October 2013
Edition)
The above first two COPs will supersede the “Code of Practice on Shipboard
Container Handling on Vessels (January 2007 Edition)” and “Code of Practice
on Shipboard Container Handling on Local Vessels (January 2007 Edition)”
respectively and will take effect on 1st September 2013. The last two COPs
will take effect on 1st October 2013.
