Aligning with the opening of the new school year, the activities of HELMEPA’s “Marine Environment and Sciences Awareness” Campaign resume this month in the city of Thiva.
The fundamental aim of the Campaign, which is being implemented in 12 cities across Greece with the support of Lloyd’s Register Foundation* (LRF), is to inform primary and high school students together with members of the broader public on issues pertinent to the marine environment, shipping and applied sciences and engineering, simultaneously heightening their environmental consciousness.
The Campaign will remain in the city of Thiva between 8 and 23 October. The Municipality of the city of Thiva has placed the activities of the Campaign under its auspices.
The launching of the Campaign coincides with “Environmental Education Week”, what is to become an annual national initiative instituted by the Hellenic Ministry for Education for the first time this year as taking place in the second week of October. Within the framework of this new enterprise, a workshop titled “Environmental Education and the Prevention of Pollution by Litter” has been scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, 8th October in the “Alexandros Kofinis” Room of the Municipality of Thiva’s Conference Centre.
The inauguration of the Exhibition titled “The Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences” will then follow. The Exhibit will be housed in the “Harmony” Room of the same Centre for the duration of three weeks. In collaboration with the Boeotia Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education, it is expected that approximately 1, 300 students from schools both within the city of Thiva and the wider region, will visit the Exhibition, with costs covered by the program.
Other informative and voluntary activities for students have been planned as part of the Campaign, in cooperation with the Educational Directorates and other local stakeholders.
