Hellenic Maritime Museum hosts the “HELMEPA Junior” Art Exhibition

by admin

nmeAn art exhibition, immersed in the vibrant artistic touches and the imagination of the children-members of the “HELMEPA Junior” Program, is to be kindly hosted by the Hellenic Maritime Museum between 23rd October and 22nd November 2013.

The title of this special exhibition is “Sailing in Clean Blue Seas”. The fact that it is being coordinated in collaboration with the Hellenic Maritime Museum is of particular significance. It links Greece’s historical ties with the sea to the environmental consciousness harnessed by today’s Greek seafarer and shipowner HELMEPA volunteer members. Selecting the 56 works to be showcased from among the hundreds of choices was a difficult task. The pool of submissions is the result of artworks sent in as part of the “HELMEPA Junior” Program’s Annual Pan-Hellenic Drawing Competitions held between 2006 and today, in which over 15, 000 students aged between 5 and 13 years have taken part.

Children have the opportunity to artistically express their concerns about marine pollution through these paintings and they also convey to their audience their love of the brilliant “blue” of our seas. A “blue” that is up to us to protect for the sake of the younger generations.

The inauguration of the exhibition is on Wednesday, 23rd October at 7pm. Museum opening hours are between 9am and 2pm, Tuesday to Saturday. For further information please contact the Museum’s secretariat on either 210 4516264 or 210 4286959 or send them an email at nme@ath.forthnet.gr.
