Baltic Exchange Capesize Index 2014 trial clarification
The Baltic Exchange has clarified that the short-term suspension of the Baltic Capesize Index 2014 (BCI_2014) has no impact on the trial of its new suite of timecharter routes or the Capesize 2014 timecharter average. The routes, based on a 180, 000dwt vessel, continue to be reported on a trial basis. However, the trial calculation of BCI 2014 has been observed to produce an unsatisfactory result. The calculation of the trial BCI 2014 itself has therefore been suspended whilst a new mathematical formula is applied. This does not affect the reporting of the current BCI, its component parts or the timecharter average.
The Baltic Exchange is the world’s only independent source of maritime market information for the trading and settlement of physical and derivative contracts. Its international community of over 600 members encompasses the majority of world shipping interests and commits to a code of business conduct overseen by the Baltic.
