Yet another honor for HELMEPA from the human element in Shipping

by admin

The Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association – HELMEPA is honored to announce that the Piraeus Port Captains Club has named the Association to be the recipient of its 2014 Award “for its contribution to society and the maritime industry”.

The Club recognizes, on an annual basis, not-for-profit organizations that have been established by eminent visionaries from within shipping. To be granted to the Association during a special ceremony in November, the Award justifies once more the proactive initiative that the late George P. Livanos and a group of like-minded forward thinking colleagues and seafarers embraced 32 years ago and the invaluable work it has done since and continues to do today.

Of special significance is the fact that the Club and HELMEPA were both founded in 1982, marking this year a successful operation of 32 years!

The Board of Directors of the Piraeus Port Captains Club has also revealed that it has the particular pleasure of naming HELMEPA Director General, Mr. Dimitris C. Mitsatsos, Honorary Member of the Club. This distinction is a mark of respect towards both Mr Mitsatsos’s “personal accomplishments and abilities as well as his continued tremendous efforts towards achieving the Association’s aims and difficult work” to enhance environmental awareness among the community and improve safety at sea.

HELMEPA wishes to thank the Piraeus Port Captains Club for these distinctions and looks forward to the prize-giving event on 6th November 2014.
