There is just one month left to register your participation in European Cleanup Day 2014 this May 10, organizing your own beach, lake, river or even forest, park or neighbourhood clean-up.
This year marks the inaugural running of this initiative at a Europe-wide level, with the support of the European Commission and with the aim of highlighting the serious issue of pollution of the natural environment by litter and the immediate need of a more environmentally-responsible attitude to be adopted by all.
Already throughout Greece, more than 2, 500 volunteers, young and old, have registered their participation in beach, underwater and forest clean-ups, which they themselves have organized across 50 coastal and territorial areas.
The process is simple;
- Select the place you would like to clean with your colleagues, friends or family, complete the registration form and submit it to HELMEPA.
- HELMEPA will email you with all the necessary instructions and supporting material (Campaign logo and litter recording/observation data sheets).
- The clean-up activity will be entered into the database and, given you agree, will be announced on HELMEPA’s Facebook page so that others who are interested may learn about the various goings-on as part of the Campaign around the country.
- Upon the activity’s conclusion, send HELMEPA both your photos, so that they may be posted online and your completed litter recording/observation data sheets. These data on the volume and type of litter collected significantly contribute to the scientific investigation on combating this pollution issue.
In the event that participants wish to separate the litter collected into recyclable and non-recyclable materials, the Hellenic Recovery Recycling Corporation (HE.R.R.Co.), which is supporting the campaign nation-wide, will undertake its removal from the clean-up sites.
For further information and/or to receive a copy of the printed registration form, please contact HELMEPA’s Environmental Awareness Sector on telephone 210 9343088 or by email at email@example.com.
Greece’s natural environment is our most splendid heritage. Let’s rid it of all litter so as to showcase its natural beauty!
