Managing the Risks of Ballast Water Treatment Technology was the theme of a panel discussion hosted by Lloyd’s Register Marine in their General Committee room on the 18th March 2015.
With the IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention drawing closer to ratification and the USCG Regulations already in place, the event offered industry participants the opportunity to share their insights and experiences regarding ballast water treatment technologies, the risks involved and how they can be managed.
Panellists included participants from LR’s Marine Environment & Sustainability Team, the UK Chamber of Shipping and Alfa Laval. The seminar was attended by 25 key London-based client and professional engineering institution representatives and discussion focused around compliance options, including for short sea shipping, BWTS approval requirements and the challenges that need to be considered for system installation and operation.
