Industry experts join panel session to debate trends and drivers impacting critical issues for owners and operators.

(Houston –) ABS, a leading provider of classification services to the global marine and offshore industries, will host a Podium Session at the Nor-Shipping Exhibition Centre on Thursday 4 June 2015, titled, “Optimizing Asset Performance.”

Moderated by ABS President and Chief Operating Officer, Europe Division, Kirsi Tikka, the session will examine how shipowners can enhance asset performance by taking an integrated approach to selected operational components.

“Safety, equipment reliability, cost control, environmental performance and efficiency are among the most pressing concerns of owners and operators of ships and offshore units today, ” says Tikka. “Typically, the industry has considered these performance elements in isolation, but we have entered an era where technology allows us to take a more holistic and integrated approach to how we can best manage the performance of valuable ship and offshore unit assets.”

Enablers of such an approach comprise data collection and analysis techniques, IT systems, sensor technologies, simulation methods and system diagnostics that address performance factors such as fuel efficiency, emissions, and hull and machinery condition.

The event will include contributions from ABS Director of Energy Efficiency and Vessel Performance Jan Otto de Kat as well as input from Maersk Maritime Technology Director Regulatory Affairs Niels Bjorn Mortensen, and Anders Baardvik, Senior Vice President Tanker Group, DVB Bank SE.

The presentations will be followed by a panel session with contributions from Secretary General ICS Peter Hinchliffe, Leon Patitsas of Greek operator Atlas Maritime and Executive Director, V-Ships, Bob Bishop.
