The Standard Club (www.standard-club.com) and Richards Hogg Lindley (Hellas) Ltd. (www.rhlg.com) held their annual tennis tournament for the fifth consecutive year.
“The Charles Taylor Tennis – The Greek Shipping Tournament” is an annual tennis tournament organised under the umbrella of the Charles Taylor Group (www.ctplc.com) exclusively for shipping executives. This year the tournament featured Gentlemen’s singles (under 39), Gentlemen’s singles (40+), Ladies’ singles, Mixed-doubles and Gentlemen’s doubles matches. The competition hosted 103 participants representing 66 different companies from the Greek shipping community. The referee, Ms Tereza Tabossi directed the organization of the tournament.
The finals were held on the evening of 28 May. In the gentlemen’s finals, in the under 39 category Alexandros Iossifidis (Intermodal Shipbrokers) prevailed over Thassos Papouis (Allied Shipbroking Inc.). In the 40+ category, Ilias Koukoutsis (Eurobulk Ltd) beat Sewng-woo Lee (Korean Register). The ladies’ final was won by Elpida Skoufalou of Union Commercial Inc., who beat Paulina Lykoudi representing Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd. In the mixed-doubles, the winning couple was Aris Pittas (Euroseas Ltd.) / Elpida Skoufalou (Union Commercial Inc.), who played against G. Arghyrakis (E.G. Arghyrakis Law Office) / Carolyn Biggar (Maritime Lawyer). In the gentlemen’s doubles Nikos Stavrakis (Centrofin Management Inc.) / Apostolos Kaltis (Gleamray Maritime Inc.) won over Alexandros Politis (Gleamray Maritime Inc.) / Aris Pittas (Euroseas Ltd.).
The trophies were awarded to the winners Mark Collins, Oliver Hutchings (Syndicate Directors) Konstantinos Samaritis (Claims Director) on behalf of The Standard Club and by Andrew Paton (Managing Director) and Angeliki Kallini (Adjuster) of Richards Hogg Lindley. The Awards Ceremony was presented by Anna Doumeni, Senior Claims Executive of Charles Taylor.
Philip Stephenson, Regional Claims Director of Charles Taylor & Co, manager of The Standard Club and Keith Sturges Director of the Piraeus office of Richards Hogg Lindley congratulated the winners on their achievement and thanked all the players and supporters. Mary Miliou was thanked for successfully coordinating the event. The sponsors, Mr Antonis Theodorou of the Tennis Department of the Fais Group, the Forty Love Tennis Club and the Kallichoron Hotel were also thanked for their support. The celebration continued with a reception for all players and non-players.
The tournament continues to be a great success with the Greek Shipping community which embraces the event with enthusiasm and spirit. The participants were satisfied with the organization and the relaxing atmosphere that prevailed throughout the tournament.
During the tournament, the spectators donated €1, 000 to support the “The Ark of the World”, an association supporting abandoned children. Children from the “Ark” joined the event.
