Waterway closed after barge collision
July 20, 2015, United States, Houston, Texas

The Intracoastal Waterway is currently closed to all traffic from mile marker 350 to Bolivar light 13A after two barges collided at approximately 0100 this morning (20 July).

The collision triggered a fire and shortly after 0200, the Coast Guard alerted regional responders that the burning barge was releasing an amount of naphtha.

According to a Coast Guard spokesman, the Houston fireboat went out to combat the fire and by 0530 were successful in putting the flames out. They are currently still putting water on the barge to ensure that there will be no refresh of the flames, and there does not appear to be product leaking into the water, however an assessment is underway.
