On Tuesday 15 September 2015, British Marine will be joined by British Olympic sailor and member of the all-female crew of Team SCA, Annie Lush, to celebrate its fifth Apprenticeship Graduation Awards at the Southampton Boat Show. She will be helping reward a selection of apprentices in roles varying from marine engineers’ right through to riggers and carpenters.
For a number of years British Marine has been working with marine companies and the Government to support the growth and development of apprentices to ensure that the industry, bringing £2.905 billion worth of turnover to the UK economy, continues to thrive. These Awards are one way to recognise the diversity of accessible skills and careers in the marine industry and this year will see graduating apprentices from the likes of Sunseeker International, Berthon Boat Company and Fairlie Yachts.
Today some of the biggest names in the marine sector run successful apprenticeship schemes in a bid to develop their future workforce and this year, to coincide with the Graduation Awards, British Marine has introduced a new Award to directly honour the achievements of these companies.
The Apprenticeship Game Changer Award will be bestowed each year to a British marine company which has made a significant contribution to the industry with the help of apprentices during the previous year.
So which marine business will be the first to receive the accolade?
