At 0558 hours local time yesterday (19 October), the Vessel Traffic Service at Houston/Galveston directed no ship movements on the Houston Ship Channel from Kinder-Morgan Ship Dock 4 to Kinder-Morgan Ship Dock 2 due to a sunken barge across from Kinder-Morgan Ship Dock 1.UPDATE: Sunken tug/barge salvage operations continue on the green side across from Kinder-Morgan Ship Dock 1. Vessel Traffic Service Houston Galveston directs the following restrictions for all vessel movements on the Houston Ship Channel between Kinder-Morgan Ship Dock 4 to Kinder-Morgan Ship Dock 2. Widest possible berth, minimum safe speed, no meeting or overtaking, and draft restriction of 32 feet or less.UPDATE 2: VTS has advised that there is a channel closure pertaining to ships across from Kinder Morgan Galena park from 0900-1600 for salvage operations of the sunken barge from yesterday. They are advising that inland tows and our tugs are not affected by this obstruction and can pass the scene slow bell no wake.

12-hour channel closure

There will be an upcoming 12-hour (or less) channel closure in the area of the Head of Passes on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, from 0800 hours to 2000 hours that will effectively close the channel to all vessels intending to transit Southwest Pass.This closure is scheduled to enable the removal of a submerged pipeline.
