Status of North Channel (update)

The Safety Zone established after a tug boat sunk in Boston’s North Channel on 16 February was lifted at 1:30pmyesterday afternoon (18 February).The sunken tug has been located intact at position 42 deg.-22.38N 070 deg.-54.97W, approximately 160 yards north of the northern edge of the North Channel. It is lying upside down with the bow sticking up about 30ft from ocean floor and the stern is sitting about 15ft up from ocean floor. A buoy is being placed at the location with a white light.Over the course of the next few days, salvage crews will be working on salvage operations that also involve removing the fuel from the tug, so mariners should proceed with caution in this area for the safety of work crews and divers.

Major breakdown at Coal Terminal

There has been a major break-down to Reclaimer #2 isolating stockpiles in the southern yard of Port Kembla Coal Terminal.Reclaimer #1, which feeds vessels with stockpiles in the northern yard, remains in service.The break-down to reclaimer #2 is having an effect on the shipping programme with vessels with cargo in the northern yard permitted to load.

A Force Majeure notification may be considered by Port Kembla Coal Terminal (PKCT). If so, affected shippers will be advised accordingly.
