Grounded vessel refloated

The container ship that ran aground in the Suez Canal on Thursday afternoon (28 April) was refloated at around 01:20hours local time this morning (30 April). The vessel resumed its southbound transit to Suez escorted by five tugs.According to information from the Suez Canal Authority movement section, the Southbound Convoy (currently at Great Bitter lakes) was due to resume transit at about 02:30 – 03:00, after which the Northbound Convoy would be rescheduled.For information about operations in the Suez Canal, contact GAC Egypt at suezcanal@gac.com

Canal locks lane outages for repairs

Beginning at 0001 hours on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, until 2359 hours on Friday, May 6, 2016 (3 days), the EAST lane of Miraflores Lock will be out of service to perform scheduled dry chamber seals repairs on Miter Gates 100 and 101.Also, beginning at 0001 hours, until 0400 hours on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 (4 hours), and additionally beginning at 0001 hours, until 2359 hours on Thursday, May 5, 2016 (24 hours), the WEST lane of Gatun Locks will be out of service in order to perform emergency repairs on Miter Gate 23.
As a result, and in accordance with the rules governing the Transit Reservation System,  Condition 2 will be in effect from Wednesday, May 4, 2016, until Friday, May 6, 2016.Applications for reserved transits while Condition 2 is in effect will be received beginning 0900 hours on Sunday, May 1, 2016. The Just-In-Time (JIT) transit slots available for supers will be reduced during this period to one for each direction, whereas the JIT slots for regular vessels transiting without restrictions will remain at one in each direction.
