The BDI@792: still far apart from offering viability…

Despite the plus modus of the BDI (Baltic Dry Index), thanks once again to the ever volatile Capers which saw their respective BCI 2014 index gaining another 107 points today and posing well at 1,478 points, all the rest indices where at the same levels more or less with the usual or unusual ups and downs suggesting ultra-caution. The Geopolitical environment gets worse; John  Faraclas’ daily Recap:

The BDI gained 19 points since yesterday and despite the 502 plus points since its lowest ever level of 290 in February 2016 there is a long way to go climbing back to the safety level of 2,277 points back in 27 Dec 2013! One needs to see these 1,485 points back in the basket, so we can breath a bit of fresh air! Unless we see these levels be on guard.

The Panamaxes gained just seven points and now the BPI reads 655 points; still caution though!

The BSI continued its recent falling modus and now stands at 694 points – below the 700 points threshold!

The Handies too dropped two points and the BHSI stands at 420 points…”ground

The box-ships still in a mess…following the Hanjin collapse and the container index is falling. Already a traumatised sector, it can bring more tsunamis…

The Wets continued the latest “tradition”  with the latest published

BDTI and BCTI up nine points at 537 and minus six points respectively at 421…

The price of WTI despite some earlier gains remained better than yesterday though at US$ 47.33…

A lot of problems appear in many companies – listed or unlisted, it doesn’t matter. Very soon the shipping industry will be a totally different one with incalculable losses to the detriment of lenders…  Expect many corruption scandals to surface involving ship-finance scams… Expect more closure of shipyards… Expect economic wars to an extent that “ground” wars or “sea-battles” and “dog-fighting” in the skies will look like a kindergarten…

We hope a lot can be learned in Hamburg’s SMM…

Have a nice evening!
