The BDI down at 922; BREXIT to govern Geopolitics…

The BDI was down three points today since yesterday’s …”rise”  of 15 points and at 922 sends more alarming bells; BREXIT becomes the catalyst for all Geopolitical issues; John Faraclas daily recap:

The Capers’ BCI 2014 gained more or less half of what it gained yesterday(+85), and with 41 points plus it stands at 1,509…

The Panamaxes lost 20 points and the BPI reads 1,019…

The Supras’ BSI lost three points and  now stands at 730 and the Handies’ BHSI lost four – now at 451 points…

The Wets too in a downwards trend; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and the BCTI (Cleans) stood today at 1,018 and 660, that is minus nine and minus 24 points respectively, despite what the analysts say and the freight rates are; the drop here is substantial and possibly might stay longer than anticipated.

The Container trade seems to create more troubles for all unless all stakeholders leave aside their differences and streamline the market. If not, expect more mess and the banks will not be able to respond to colossal losses!

The WTI as these lines are written stands at US$ 52.79…

Geopolitics NOW:

Despite that fact that Geopolitics today are “governed” by the BREXIT’s latest events following PM Theresa May’s announcements, the MIGRANTS issue maintains and remains the number one  priority / top issue which is also one of BREXIT’s issues, as same is referred under the Immigration hazard so to speak!

There has been a lot of good developments and happenings in Greece and in particular in the Greek Islands for better conditions vis-a-vis the MIGRANTS appalling conditions, in some cases, following the bad weather conditions prompting these developments for good changes and improvements leading to more humane conditions.  New mobile houses and a naval ship have been deployed in Lesvos island… A lot has to be done, but the most important thing is to completely empty, as a first step/measure, the Greek Eastern Aegean islands and relocate them to Merkel’s Germany; she can afford them given her pathetic stance not to stop on time the Turkish blackmail and despicable actions of the Turkish authorities keeping a blind eye and letting them cross over to Greece and Europe… Shame! There are three millions more awaiting in Turkey’s Anatolian Coast to cross over to Greece, its Islands and Europe. There also another three million in the North Africa Coast to cross over to Italy, Malta and Spain… We eagerly await tomorrow the findings  during the visit of European Commissioner for Immigration Dimitris Avramopoulos and his entourage in Lesvos island. The Greek Immigration Minister for Immigration will be there too…

In Syria and Iraq the despicable Wars continue… Air-drops from the WFP are suspended in the eastern Syrian city of Deir al-Zour as same is besieged by the ISIS Terrorists… The Aleppo saga one day will receive, as many other places, the OSCAR for Human Courage! The more the fighting continues, the more mess in the aftermath. Wonder what diplomats are doing! No excuse – we do not mention the politicians…, it’s not worthy.

In neighbouring Turkey the arrested terrorist who killed 39 and injured 69 on New Year’s Eve at Reina restaurant/bar, admitted doing this despicable atrocity.  ISIS also took “responsibility”; shame! During the raid in the place/ a flat, according to the media, were he was arrested, police found pistols, ammunition, about US$ 200,000 and two drones; two drones, that’s more than serious and alarming. He was trained in Afghanistan. The entire story is chilling, hence we must all ensure we protect our frontiers in the best possible way to avoid such events. Now many can see one of the most dreadful elements which can strike Europe, that of MIGRANTS, as among them many terrorists are in disguise. Turkey, as we have numerous times explained, is THE  country to be closely watched. Politically and economically as well as geopoliticaly is fast advancing into mess and despite all these problems – add the summer “coup”, continues to pester its neighbours on a daily basis…

BREXIT now is more than clear and Mrs. May was more than straightforward in her statement. I guess she did the best thing and raised to the circumstances in making Britain a global power and a better off nation  AND with more dignity. These are the main and most important points she said: “We are leaving the European Union but we are not leaving Europe; and that is why we seek a new and equal partnership between an independent self-governing global Britain and our friends and allies in the EU. Not partial membership of the European Union, associate membership of the European Union, or anything that leaves us half-in half-out. We do not seek to adopt a model already enjoyed by other countries. We do not seek to hold on to bits of membership as we leave; no. The United Kingdom is leaving the European Union, and my job is to get the right deal for Britain as we do.” She also said very emphatically that:  “I can confirm today that the Government will put the final deal which is agreed between the UK and the EU to a vote into both houses of Parliament before it come into force”. Excellent! The die is cast and let’s see what happens next, when the Article 50’s time will begin and what will be the finale! All in all she did more than well and the people of the United Kingdom too will have to perform a lot of disciplines if they really wish to become a super global economy and power avoiding all these troubles that the Referendum’s result delivered. The Ball now is in Europe’s court!

Europe, following elections, has a new president in its European Parliament. A Conservative win of Italian Antonio Tajiani – according to the Greeks, it’s also his Nameday today – this is what I call “Many Happy Returns”! Excellent ! 69 MEP’s more voted in his favour; 351 versus the 282 of Gianni Pitella. For sure Berlusconi must be a very happy man… Good bye Mr. Martin Schulz, hello Mrs. Merkel…

Greece continues in turmoil both internally and externally; a very crucial period; CAUTION! The current administration is in tatters, so does the opposition, hence we reiterate the view that an ARISTOS Government in Athens is more than a necessity and the only viable solution!

A bit north, Serbia and Kosovo are at loggerheads threatening the fragile peace and status there and in the entire Balkans – always the tinter-box of the World, not just of Europe!  CAUTION too!

Putin’s Russia is at the “forefront” in the aftermath of USA’s presidential elections’ result and the entire world is eager to learn the truth, if something sinister has happened. Too much Mickey Moussing about…

President-elect Trump is geared for the big momentum. A very cloudy beginning but we keep our faith that something might change him all together.

South America in a mess, same as in Africa.

In the Far East the tensions continue; let’s see the latest in our tomorrow’s midweek-report. In the meantime, we hope the search begins once again for the ill-fated flight MH370, missing since the 8th of March 2014 with 239 people. The relatives and the World’s public need to know!

Have a nice evening and be on guard for every eventuality.
