Yacht races between Hong Kong and Macau
Thursday, January 19, 2017, Hong Kong
Yacht races between Hong Kong and Macau will take place on 28 January 2017 (Saturday) and 30 January 2017(Monday). About 25 sailing boats are expected to participate in the races.The outbound trip from Hong Kong to Macau will start at 1000 hours on 28 January 2017 in an area south-east of Lamma Island (in the vicinity of Yuen Kok Light). Depending on the weather condition, it will follow:
(a) Course 1 – a westerly route through south of Lamma Island, south of Tai A Chau, thence to Macau if the wind is coming from the north;
OR
(b) Course 2 – a south-westerly route through the southern Boundary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, thence to Macau if the wind is coming from the south.The return trip from Macau to Hong Kong will start at 1000 hours on 30 January 2017 and will follow:
(a) Course 1 – a route through south of Tai A Chau and to complete the race at a position east of Cheung Chau if the wind is coming from the north;
OR
(b) Course 2 – a route through south of Dazhi Zhou and to complete the race at a position east of Cheung Chau if the wind is coming from the south.

Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity of the race routes should proceed with caution, giving practical consideration to the contestants. Compliance with the provisions of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 is mandatory.

Fine for berthing payment cancellation or delay

From 1 February 2017, there will be a fine of AED 10,000 for a vessel in the following situations:

  1. If the vessel call is cancelled after tendering her Notice of Readiness.
  2. Berthing delay due to stevedoring charges not made in time.
  3. Not able to berth due to non-readiness of the cargo.
  4. Berthing delay request by agent.

Letters of Protest after pollution

Following the pollution caused by leakage at one of the shore tanks of Poliport Terminal in Izmit Bay, the berthing and departure of the vessels is being conducted in a controlled manner.The Harbour Master has received Letters of Protest (LOP) from some vessels calling at Izmit Bay ports related to vessel cleaning and berthing/departure delays. To eveluate such LOPs, a letter from the terminal confirming the delays must be provided, as well as detailed information/documentation on the cleaning of the vessel supported by photographs and the Master’s official statement declaring that the cleaning of the vessel was performed.For information about operations in Turkey contact GAC Turkey at turkey@gac.com
