Markets: shall we …blame the Rooster? Geopolitics: Enigmatic!

John Faraclas

With another fall, basically “credited” to the Capers, the BDI “must” blame the Roosters’ Chinese celebrations which by now come to an end and let’s hope there will be a reverse or else… The Geopolitical conundrum is more than enigmatic; John Faraclas’ daily briefing:

The BDI lost earlier on today another 17 points since last Friday and now reads 735 points.

The Capers’ BCI 2014 was the main looser at a very significant point-level of 911…minus 70 points. Wonder what the specialists say for this; even if it sky rocks, still they have a case to answer!

The Panamaxes’ BPI is the only ray …of hope – stuck at 922, the same as last week’s closing. It might be a good sign…

The Supras’  BSI lost two points and now reads 665; not bad… and,

The Handies’ BHSI a further five points loss, now reading 377

A very bad day yet again for the dry market despite the contained losses of all indices, except the Capers. Tomorrow is another day!

The Wets followed suits with the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) losing six points each and now they stand at 858 and 585 respectively (coincidentally the numbers are the same, but in a different order…). More ships in the water following new deliveries or just a bad market…?

The WTI has risen a bit and now reads US$ 53,95 – this is a dangerous level and sends already alarms around… We hope same falls later on tonight…

The Geopolitical front now:

The MIGRANTS still on top by far from all other news/issues; in the USA, in Europe and in particular in the Easter and Central Mediterranean Sea the MIGRANTS issue continue to make waves. Time to end this despicable situation. In the USA the involvement of the newly elected president Trump shakes the foundations of the entire American society. The president is at odds with the entire system there and he’s very cautious in protecting America. The ban is debatable but for reasons of national Security might remain; we shall see…

The Wars in Syria and Iraq with the ISIS and other functions there continues. The Syrian army is about to conquer al-Bab…

Next door in Israel the parliament there passed a controversial law retroactively legalising homes built on settlements; this is expected to create mess in the region and beyond. The West Bank will become a boomerang if Israel doesn’t pay attention to international law.-

We reiterate the view that MIGRANTS from the Middle East region should be housed in the rich Gulf Nations and mainly in Saudi Arabia; this is the verdict of a pool we conducted, asking nearly one thousand persons in the UK , Greece, France and Italy during the last five months (September 2016 to January 2017).-

Turkey continues to have internal and external issues; both must be dealt with in the most peaceful way otherwise expect more mess in the region. A country to watch…

Greece too has internal and external problems and as we have stressed a very efficient team of ARISTOS must run this country; it is Europe though lead by Germany to blame for the country’s “debt”. Greece and in particular the Greek political establishment can look how the Greek shipping has managed to be on the lead worldwide despite the good or the bad markets! GREXIT though as things are going, is a MUST!

BREXIT proceeds further and the Europeans are trying everything possible to advert same or at best contain the damage… It looks as if the problem rests with “Europe”…

The forthcoming elections in France, Italy, Germany and in The Netherlands are “already” under way. It remains to be seen what Mrs. Merkel is up to…

Wonder if Fox News apologises to Kremlin; president Putin doesn’t forget these issues being ultra issues of dignity!

In Afghanistan civilian casualties have hit a new high; ISIS’s linked attacks increased ten-fold… Caution. The worse of all is the number of children killed or injured; SHAME  to all involved and not pursuing in stopping these atrocities. No excuses. It seems to me that few know the meaning of the maxim: “If you don’t do it excellent, don’t do it at all” – you dead well know what I mean…

In South America now; the former Peruvian president Alejandro Toledo denies allegations of bribing, particularly from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht in return for awarding public works contracts.

That’s all more or less as other news remain pretty much the same in China, India, Africa and in Australia. Obviously you can refer to our last Friday’s report… All issues there still valid!

Once again: Be on guard as terrorist might strike without any further notice. All in all, geopolitics remain very enigmatic and you don’t know what might happen tomorrow…
