Port operations unaffected by state of emergency declaration
Tuesday, March 6, 2018, Sri Lanka

Operations at Sri Lanka’s four ports – Colombo, Galle, Trincomalee & Hambantota – are proceeding smoothly, unaffected by the ten-day nationwide state of emergency declared today (6 March).

The state of emergency was declared in a bid to prevent the spread of communal violence following unrest in the Kandy district (central Sri Lanka) over the past two days. No curfew, road blocks or similar measures have been imposed in the ports’ regions as yet, and operations are continuing as normal.
