The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost five points yesterday but as we foresee there might soon be an upwards “trend” despite the pessimistic views from others. As said in previous reports we live in a very certain uncertain situation where everything is possible and Markets becomes gradually the market for the very very very few. Geopolitics are more than worrying! CAUTION!!! John Faraclas midweek market briefing:
The Capers fall was minimal – just there points which is good news and the BCI now stands at 1,109 points!
The Panamaxes lost nine points with the BPI now reading 1,606 points…
On the antipode, Supras and Handies were up; the BSI gained eight points – 1,117 and the BHSI four – 634 respectively.
All in all a falling market with an interesting point too; all ups and downs were on a single digit point-mark!
The picture in the Wets was different; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 645 – plus nine and 561 – plus two points respectively! A bit of good news…
The WTI is reaching dangerous levels for the masses which comprise at least the 90 (ninety) centum of Planet Ocean’s population! As these lines are written, the WTI stood at US$ 65.10… Dangerous! CAUTION!
Geopolitics continue to worsen since yesterday and let’s see what will come out tomorrow at the EU meeting. Turkey will be one of the main issues together with the other – and top matter, the MIGRANTS! Turkey is not becoming, it is for years now a pariah state under president Erdogan. Regret this outcome, but here you go. Can Erdogan change? Can we save the Turkish people? Can he stop pestering not only his neighbouring countries but also Turkey’s wider periphery?
The Syrian and Iraqi wars continue. Syria is already flattened! Shame! There will be a conflagration in the wider region; just wait and see! Greek mess continues! BREXIT until is over it is not over despite the fact that we feel all is getting smooth. It is the details though that count. We still maintain the view that BREXIT at the end of the day will be favourable for the British people! What’s up now with the new German cabinet? Some surprises there, but let’s wait and see what Mrs. Merkel will do next. And what about the real powerful man there who already has a new post: Wolfgang Schäuble is the new Bundestag speaker!
Newly re-elected Russian president Putin is the man to watch now! What will be the outcome of a meeting with president Trump? Meantime he is furious and goes on with sanctions against China on the IP issue; these actions come after years of talks about the issue that failed to produce change and rightly so! Is former president Sarkozy of France in real trouble particularly with an alleged affair with the late Libyan leader Gaddafi? Will former Brazilian president Lula end up behind bars?
On another note and as announced yesterday a team from allaboutshiping.co.uk is crossing Europe. A very important finding is the truck transport all over. All highways where full of TEU’s, FEU’s and tuck lorries and in some instances a bit dangerous. Also we noted they occupied two of the three lanes in the highways! Part of intermodalism same have conquered trade and transport! At Freiburg in south Germany off the Swiss / German border near Basel, people hope that the new German government will deliver! At our hotel there were many delegates that they couldn’t be accommodated at Basel Hotels due to the very successful Baselworld 2018Watch and Jewellery Show. Hospitality and good friendship counts a lot! At our Hotel in the heart of the town, we met a Grecophile couple of Germans from Munich with very strong also links with Britain in unionism too and we had a great time talking on Greek Holidays – we introduce them Astypalaia and the Kallichoron Boutique Hotel as well as Chios and Spetsae Islands. They were lovers of the Peloponnese and also Evia Island! We strolled around the old town and ended up early at the Schwaben Torle restaurant for a traditional meal! Excellent; see the relevant video.
Finally the annual report on Greek Shipping come out; a great work compiled and supervised by the GSCC‘s director Radm (HCG) Costas Amarantidis; log herebelow and see the success of Greek shipping: Greek Controlled Shipping 2018
Have a nice evening and be on guard for every eventuality emanating from Pirates and Terrorists wherever you are on Planet Ocean!
