A new London Market group for human resources professionals has been established by the International Underwriting Association. The move comes in response to a growing number of regulatory changes and initiatives across the insurance sector to boost education, training, talent recruitment and diversity.
At the inaugural meeting of the new group, IUA members discussed issues which might be discussed in future and potential topics for market events to improve education and training. These included the developing use of artificial intelligence to help handle human resources enquiries and how different generations engage with the workplace in different ways.
A quarterly group meeting is planned and members of the group will also form a contacts network enabling greater sharing of market initiatives and general information. Jo Sykes, UK Human Resources Manager for International General Insurance (IGI) has been elected as the group’s Chair.
Louise Day, IUA Director of Operations, said: “In recent years the IUA has been hosting more and more education and training events that have proved popular with members. At the same time, we have been working closely with the London Market Group, supporting its efforts to build a diverse, dynamic workforce, which offers a deep talent pool for the market to draw on.
“As a result of this work there is a clear need for greater communication across the company market and our new group for human resources practitioners is an ideal vehicle to facilitate this. The debate at its first meeting was lively and informed with a wide variety of issues raised for further discussion in future.”
The next meeting of the group will take place in the second week of December. Membership is open to anyone with a professional interest in this area and employed by an IUA member company.
