Panama Maritime makes a big splash…

Panama Maritime makes a big splash north and south in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans with a spectacular kick start at the Megapolis Convention Centre with over 400 delegates, speakers, guests and shipping dignitaries from all over Planet Ocean.

A great opening speech by Captain Orlando Allard who runs a very unique operation; a simple and to the point speech by IMO’s Secretary-General Kitack Lim, an equally simple speech by the Shipping Minister of Panama Jorge Barakat and a great welcome by the deputy Mayor of Panama Ms Raisa Banfield.

The Awards ceremony was also a very touching one; good to see the awards going to excellent and environmentally prone companies and individuals. The most touching moment was when Ms Maria Dixon was about to end her Thank You speech*; she got a standing ovation by the 400 strong audience – she received the Lifetime Achievement Award! You can listen to her Thank You speech at hte end of this

Folklore dancers appeared on the conference floor preparing us for the great reception that followed at the exhibition hall – an area with nearly sixty stands.

Excellent local dips and drinks and a very jovial mood by all. We now eagerly await the beginning of the two day conference and tour in the Panama Canal

We will revert with more news and videos later on.
