Port of Livorno

Register now for the ESPO Conference 2019 and be part of this annual highlight for the European port industry

03 April 2019 – On 23 and 24 May, the European Sea Ports Organisation is holding its Annual Conference in Livorno. We believe that there are a lot of reasons to be part of this event, but here are the five most important ones.

1° The theme of this 16th edition of the ESPO conference is “Europe’s ports in a new world”. We live in an increasingly changing and unpredictable world: climate change, digitalisation, geopolitical crises and looming trade wars, automation and increased citizens’ engagement are among the main game changers. How to prepare, anticipate, adapt abd remain competitive? During two days, speakers and audience will be exploring different game changers in more detail and try to find answers to different questions: what are the new technologies? Who are the new players? How to prepare for a new trade and geopolitical environment? What is the future of work in the port sector? And what can be expected from the new port? What does the port need to be able to play its role? What about policy? What should we expect from the new Commission and Parliament?

2° The speakers: ESPO conferences traditionally feature very high-quality speakers and experts, and this year is no exception. Confirmed speakers already include (by alphabetical order): Abbasov Faig; Adriaensen Yves; Ballantyne Richard; Beale Dame Inga; Bliek Joyce; Bodewig Kurt; Cabau Christine; Conforti Marco; Corsini Stefano; D’Agostino Zeno; DiBernardo Mike; Doumbia-Henry Cleopatra; Dreyer Iana; Haikkola Päivi; Hall Robert; Huygens Hans; Kopcynska Magda; Kückelhaus Markus; Lemmens Wilfried; Maffii Silvia; Meier Jens; Musolino Pino; Notteboom Theo; Oldakowski Bogdan; O’Reilly Eamonn; Palmer Katharine; Panaro Alessandro; Raptis Sotiris; Rossi Daniele; Ryckbost Isabelle; Shladover Steven; Spera Livia; Staake Erich; Stone Matt; Stopford Martin; Storrs-Fox Peregrine; Theofanis Sotiris; Tiganj Alisa; Toninelli Danilo; van de Camp Wim; Woijcechowski Pawel and Zeni Diletta.

3° The venue: imagine discussing the new world and its impact on ports in a beautiful 19th-century theatre with an open rooftop and, for the Conference Dinner, enjoying the Livornese cuisine with the other delegates in an old medieval Fortress in the middle of the port.

4° The timing: the conference is taking place on the eve of the European elections, which will lead to a new Commission and Parliament. While ESPO will be presenting its priorities for the next five years, the first exit polls might come in. This promises exciting moments and food for thought.

5° The Italian hospitality: having a conference in the heart of Tuscany does not need a lot of words. Hospitality, gastronomy, nice weather, beautiful heritage and landscape: all ingredients are there to mix business with pleasure.

So do not hesitate any longer, check out our conference website, reserve your seat and book your flight: Livorno is waiting for you!
