The BDI@1,767 with Geopolitics in dire straits…
What a week that was in all fronts; the BDI down, the Geopolitics in total disarray and Shipping at the cross-roads of a new era. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recaps:
The BDI was up after a long time given its continuous fall and gained ten points thanks to the Capes’ and Panamaxes’ single digit rise; same though was down 90 points on a weekly basis from last week’s 1,857 points. When the BDI is below the 2,000 points threshold things are bleak and with the Geopolitical mess as well as with the environmental overregulation hype, it could be worse…
The Capes’ BCI was up eight points and now read 3,021 but down 317!!! on a weekly basis – from 3,338 last week.
The Panamaxes’ BPI was up nine points and now stands at 1,731; the weekly losses were 73 points – down from 1,804 last Friday 27/9…
Supras and Handies fell; the BSI was down five and three points respectively at 1,199 and 670; the weekly losses 61 (from 1,260) and 20 (from 690) respectively…
The Wets continue their latest upwards mode pace that we experience since the attack at Aramco’s installations in Saudi Arabia; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 1,191 – up 68 and 544 – up 14 points respectively. The Weekly figures at 253 plus for the Dirties and 79 for the Cleans – up from 935 and 465 respectively!
The WTI was up a few cents at US$ 52.81 – from US$ 52.45 yesterday. Same was down US$ 3.10 from last week’s US$ 55.91!
The Geopolitics as said in the preamble and title of today’s recaps, continue to be perplexed leading Planet Ocean to a despicable mess!
Be it the MIGRANTS or the turbulent situation in the faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa or the provocative stance of Turkey, North Korea and Iran the situation is more than critical and we reiterate the fact that Armageddon is ante portas! Ultra CAUTION should be observed!
In Hong Kong the continuation of the uprising might turn the situation to a despicable mess leading to uncontrollable developments…
The faulty line mentioned above includes four focal points; the Balkans, the Aegean, the East Med and the entire Middle East, the ongoing animosity between Turkey and Cyprus / Greece and Israel with the Arab World as well as Turkey vs. Syria and others there – Iraq and Iran included… In Iraq we have many dead and thousand injured during these four days of anti-government protests, Turkey stirs up the Balkans and encourages Albania and Kosovo to create greater Albania… In Kosovo crucial elections take place this coming Sunday with the past role of Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj under scrutiny and doubt; let’s see what he will do. Add the way Turkey “handles” the MIGRANTS issue and see what you get. The MIGRANTS issue might turn the East Med , the Balkans and Europe upside down!!! CAUTION!!! Russia is also trying to influence the Balkans – Serbia mainly… CAUTION!
In Greece USA’ Secretary of Sate Mike Pompeo is on an official visit and let’s see the outcome. The USA is suppoting Greece and let’s hope they will deter the Turkish aggretion in the Aegean, The Balkans and beyond.
The BREXIT mess continues and it is now more than certain that somebody is trying to call a fast one on the United Kingdom; we have numerous times refer to this possibility! It goes beyond the Irish border issue and the famous infamous backstop!
Elections this coming Sunday in Portugal; very crucial for Portugal, Europe and the south of the EU!
Any hope for Cameroon? Peace must have a chance there too!
At the other side of the Atlantic president Trump is facing tough times ahead and he must clear whatever he has been accused by the Democrats as now we have two issues the Ukrainian and the Chinese Biden saga… CAUTION!
Last Tuesday China celebrated 70 (seventy) years since the revolution that Mao Zedong push forwad in creating a communist state… Big celebrations but are all 1,3 billion Chinese happy or just a few hunded millions?
The Trade Wars continue and there is more to come; caution.
For Shipping the Capital Link 9th Operational Excellenc in Shipping Forum and INTERGARGO’s meeting in Athens more than timely and important and let’s see the implementaion issue of the IMO 2020 which we doubt of its performance as we expect a bit of messy accidents and hiccups!
Coming up this Sunday until Wednesday the 9th of October, the biennial Cyprus Maritime Conference will focus on the theme of “Sea Change”, another timely event given also the energy issues which “prompted” the pariah state of Turkey to begin explorations within Cyprus’ EEZ; a violation of International Law and Order on all counts! All eyes are focused at the Carob Mill Conference Centre in Limassol. Watch this space!
Have a nice evening and weekend but continue to remain on guard from actions emanating by Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean this weekend and beyond.
