Capes’ dive; a liability, a catastrophe or an asymmetrical temporarily situ?

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) was up four points since yesterday following a 48 hours stagnation and now reads 425. On a weekly basis, hooray hooray, same was up ten points from last Friday’s (07/02) when same stood at 415 points. The Geopolitical situation WoW got worse with the Coronavirus making things even worse. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recaps:

The BCI turns out to be an issue only for the Delphi Oracle as it sunk further. The daily loss was ten points down to minus 294 and on a weekly basis the loss was another 60 (sixty) points down from the minus 234 clocked on the 7th of Feb 2020… We hope we don’t see the worse of the Capes…

The Panamaxes  “alleviated” the damage inflicted with the  BPI gaining 24 points on a daily basis and 95 on a weekly one – up from last Friday’s (07/02) 541 points… As said and numerous written in the past, one size cannot create a market and this is the very case of Panamaxes that these last days are on an upwards mode…

Two valuable plus points for the Supras’ BSI now at 470 but the weekly level was down 21 points – from 491 (07/02)…

An …ace was lost from the Handies’ BHSI now at 291. The weekly loss was 13 points – from 304, with the loss of the 300 points threshold.

All in all a downwards Dry market but let’s hope same will improve despite the financial and economic environment coupled with the Coronavirus epidemic… and the perplexed Geopolitics! Focusing a bit more on the title of today’s recap we must admit that we live in a catastrophic environment and unless same is being reversed Planet Ocean is in danger. Some shipbrokers, are optimistic and believe that we should stay put and avoid the pessimistic syndrome but, we are, with all due respect, opposing their view given the figures prevailing today, particularly with the US$ 157 trillion dollar world debt… and other “fundamentals”… CAUTION.

The Wets on a better “course”; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 865 – plus ten and 668 – plus 14 points respectively; the weekly “count” was even better; the Dirties were up 62 points – from 803 last week (07/02) and the Cleans were up 45 – from 623 points respectively…

The WTI remained above the US$ 50 – now reading US$ 52.05 which is US$ 1.73 from last week’s US$ 50.32. CAUTION as a fortnight ago we witnessed a small short lived favourable fall below the US$ 50 mark!

Coronavirus begins to bite; CAUTION as the effect will be shattering if not contained for all to all intents and purposes. Until now we haven’t seen a comprehensive way in tackling same… Quarantine is quarantine but the conspicuous spreading of the virus is also a deadly situation and wonder what’s next. Travelling by any means of transport should also be done only if same is absolutely necessary. We witnessed last night the precautions whilst on the move – busses, trains, airplanes we believe we must all contribute to all the measures announced by the competent medical authorities. Already the markets haves been affected and this can be seen from the missing goods in the shops, most of them coming from China… The Cruise industry sends warning messages with some mega cruise liners and its passengers and crew in a difficult situ. We hope all things being equal, that a breakthrough might appear. Until then ultra-CAUTION should be observed! Finally, the shipping industry has too many worries as the Shipyards build, repair and convert ships and except the dockers one has to think of the many companies’ personnel – engineers and all involved in the respective works there, their travelling… Seafarers too are in danger… very simply the entire chain is exposed and also on alert!!!! Above all the message we got from our travelling yesterday and today is that the oligopoly and the too much relying with China is not a healthy business “alternative” in trade and industry… We suggest to our international readership to see, study and learn what is going on…

Geopolitics? We are in a turning point as:

The MIGRANTS issue become a pandemic thanks to the incapable politicians particularly in the European Union. In the main Greek North Aegean islands – Lesvos, Chios, Samos, the situation over the last fortnight become unbearable. The governor of the North Aegean Islands Prof Costas Moutzouris is trying to secure with the respective Greek minister for Immigration Chiot MP Noti Mitarachi a meeting and a dialogue starting from a complete zero basis to alleviate the despicable situation and give an end to this modern day old crime: Apathy for Migrants and local suffering populations. The European Union and NATO must act swiftly to avoid the biggest humanitarian crisis but despite the suffering of the MIGRANTS and the locals both keep a blind eye!!!!! SHAME!!!!!

The faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa gets worse every single day… The Balkans still in a mess. Elections are coming up in North Macedonia; caution!!! Neither Albania nor North Macedonia see their entry to the EU family; talks are being stranded… What Kurti can achieve in Kosovo? A big gamble for all… CAUTION!!!

Turkey stirs up the Balkans, Central and East Med as well as tries to influence the entire Middle East. CAUTION as president Erdogan will never respect Treaties nor the International Law… Relations with Russia, at best: strange…

Greece and Cyprus do their best to contribute to Peace in the region… despite Turkey’s pestering attitude and escalation of provocative actions…

The Libyan mess will continue… actually its …early days…

The Syrian controversy also continues…and everything there “mingles”…

No light at the end of the tunnel for the Peace Plan between Israel and the Palestinians… Elections in Israel are more than decisive this time…

BREXIT needs a fresh mandate and let’s see the new Cabinet of prime minister Johnson how it responds. For a start, Shipping Minister and great achiever Nusrat Ghani surprisingly lost her job and let’s see who replaces her. Pity as she was performing excellent!! All in all: a great reshuffle!!!!

The EU also has to try and secure a beneficial deal with the UK but in our humble view we wonder if both sides will meet the “deadlines” set. A square new deal is needed and at all costs both sides must avoid unnecessary conflict at a time most needed given the state of affairs…

Let’s see also how Irish politics evolve post election!!

In Germany the golden girl is off… AKK  …err Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer resigned as leader of the Christian Democrats who are the ruling party and she will not be a candidate to replace Angela Merkel; “tough” !

Putin’s Russia lives in another world and he continues as we numerous time mentioned herein his own agenda!!!

At the other side of the Atlantic the mode and mood is only electoral… It’s still though a long way to Tipperary… All eyes are with president Trump who …defends his title… ? Impeachment made headlines but didn’t happened – yet… What can Bernie Saunders really achieve this time?

Central and South Latin America still in tatters. We warn you on all states’ developments there… Nothing is yet over in Venezuela, in Argentina, in Brazil and the other states. Too many things have to be done to avoid a major social upturn…

China at the mercy of Coronavirus… The entire Far East in danger and the World at large from  this deadly unknown!!! How dangerous is the Wuhan Coronavirus? To make it simple we need to see the vaccines and drugs to contain same. Epidemiologists have a lot to do and governments with WHO the same. It’s a race and same must be won before it’s too late… What role animals play with viruses, say for example the intermediate horseshow bat?  CAUTION!!!!!

Piracy “flourishes” again in West Africa… Any ideas to contain same?

Attacks also happen in the Straits of Singapore…

In the Subcontinent things also are not that rosy…

In Australia following the rain the mady world and environment as well as humans are in danger… CAUTION.

A bit north, Duterte in Philippines still confronts the USA.

In south China Sea we might soon see the mess… The perplexed situation will get worse; watch this space!

Japan closely watches the situ in all fronts……
