Markets still down, explosive geopolitics and coronavirus makes waves…

You haven’t seen anything yet; we are living in one of humanity’s most wondering and enigmatically perplexed periods when everything is at stake! The BDI went over and above the 600 points and now begins to breathe again… Geopolitics with the despicable inhumane tactics of world leaders will cost us dearly as we are heading to a point of no return – see the MIGRANTS issue. Coronavirus will teach us too many lessons. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly report / recap:

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) gained 18 points since yesterday and now reads 618, going over and above the 600 points threshold. Imagine …err remind you that back in 2008 in December same was down at 662 points the first rock-bottom, and now we are “content” to see same at 618… A few years earlier we even witnessed the 290 points “utmost” rock-bottom… On a weekly basis the BDI was up 82 points from the 535 points on the 28th of February…

The Capes still causing problems with the BCI down to minus 312 which is five points down since yesterday. We are witnessing a light volatility with ups and down over the past week… The Weekly “gains” were 16 points from the 328 a week ago (28/2)… Whatever the case and hypothesis’, the fact of the matter is that Capes’ volatile market asymmetrical performance should be closely monitor so as to avoid in the future catastrophic cases such as this current ones; the hope though is still there!!!!

The Panamaxes’ BPI brings in some hope having gone over and above the 1,000 point threshold. At 1,068 today – plus 42 and 163 points plus since last Friday’s 905 it seems we are in a good course but still other factors might cause issues. Caution!

Mild rise for the Supras’ BSI now at 688 – plus 17 points. On a weekly basis the BSI was up 82 points from 606 on the 28/2…

Minimal but beneficial rise for the Handies’ BHSI which now reads 350 – up six from yesterday’s closing. The Weekly gains stood at 26 points – from 324 last week…

So, all in all still a low Dry Market but we shouldn’t blame Coronavirus, it’s the wrong assessment. The Market was already heading downwards…

The Wets with mixed as always feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 764 – minus 28 and 685 plus two points respectively… On a weekly basis the Dirties were down 32 points from 796 and the Cleans were up 33 from 652 respectively… Cool!

The WTI went down to US$ 41.28  which is US$ 4.62 down since yesterday amid disorder caused by Russians and their energy allies too on top of the Coronavirus’ alleged fall… Last week the WTI stood at US$ 44.76 which is US$ 3.48 down. All in all a ten centum fall is being recorded and let’s see where are we heading. Meantime let’s see how Guyanas’ fortunes change following the discovery of oil there thus giving this poor South American nation the “stimulus” to improve the life of its people…

All major bourses are down by a 2,5 centum average just in one day; add the Global debt of US$ 257 (twohundredandfiftyseven) trillion and see what you get…

The Coronavirus (COVID-19)effect all over Planet Ocean is unique in many ways. The politicians obviously are not epidemiologists to understand how they should have responded at the first place. There are too many deadly unknowns and it’s now a month since major concern has “erupted”. No one yet knows what the proportion of infected humans and animals are likely to die or the figures for how many on average each carrier infects as these are just estimates and more important is the fact/issue of how many cases we are going to have, as it looks likely that the total number will be far higher. We are in 2020 witnessing the race on finding the drugs as well as the vaccines to control and minimise the losses all over Planet Ocean. Our industry, THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY in its entirety, is the most exposed one from all other put together!!!! CAUTION, CAUTION, CAUTION: this is a pandemic given the latest reports and figures… Let’s hope science makes a breakthrough like Zeus ex Machina, but until this happens, be ready for everything. Let the financial losses be losses; above all: Life and Survival, Good Health above all as our personal and this site’s wish/motto stands, are the most valuable things in life; DON’T BE GREEDY!!!

The Geopolitical situation goes from worse to worse; this is the beginning of something very different and despicable as well as detrimental for all and it’s all about MIGRANTS. MIGRANTS being used as pawns by almost every politician, its cronies, criminals – traffickers including some NGO’s and business hooligans. What we are witnessing with the continuous blackmail policy of Turkey’s president Erdogan and his likes is monumental and with the apathy of the UN, the EU and NATO gets even worse. Visiting Planet Ocean’s hot spots – such as those with MIGRANTS or even the latest one on the Greek – Turkish border of Evros River and the Greece’s Aegean Islands (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos, Kalymnos, Rhodes, Kastelorzon to name but a few) is one thing with the respective announcements and all that blah blah blah, action here and now is what we all want to see to defend your positions and titles you are being voted, appointed and paid for is what we all want to witness! The MIGRANTS issue will take incalculable dimensions all over the Med and Black Sea and await to see who will AT THE END OF THE DAY PAY THE DAMAGE ! SHAME to ALL POLITICIANS ! At the other side of the Atlantic – North and South, we are witnessing another MIGRANTS melee, not as a result of a war alike the Syrian or Libyan mess but due to poverty, despotic lefty regimes and madness! CAUTION! Now you might get your act together and see why we have classified the MIGRANTS issue as the number one on Planet Ocean. If WHO (World Health Organisation) “really” exists and with Coronavirus making waves, same should make continuous statements and declarations in all of Planet Ocean’s media to STOP people moving around as MIGRANTS as amongst them, many are  infected… but WHO cares… We reiterate the view that the only effective remedy to halt the MIGRANTS in the Aegean is that of a Naval Blockade, with a Mandate and Rules of Engagement! Similarly, for the Evros River borderline between Greece an Turkey.  Watch out what’s coming up over the weekend!!

We hope Europe is waking up with the  Austrians being the first to understand the plans of Erdogan and its Turks, similar to those when their capial Vienna was under seige from the Ottomans. It’s time the Germans and the British wake up. France has sawn it’s ready to counter the Turkish threat with whatever this entails. Usage of FRONTEX is a MUST!!! The media being “involved” in these issue must be above all impartial and then honest as already some supposed to be A1 magazines, and web sites are biased. We can take them around and saw them the harsh riality. Their employees will one day seat in the dock… This is beyond fake news!!!

The faulty line from  Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa continues to give shocks – Catalonia still unsettled, North Africa with Libya’s civil war still on destabilizing the entire Northern Africa and creating more MIGRANTS, Syria, Israel and the Palestinians (let’s see how the latest elections act), the entire Middle East issue engulfing countries as far as Iran and the entire Arabian Peninsula… Turkey pestering, exploiting and blackmailing everybody including stirring-up the entire Balkans… not to mention hte East Med with Cyprus and its EEZ being its first victim. Add Putin’s Russia role and behaviour and see what you get and how things will be shaped there…

Europe still unable to resolve its financial and economic problems and given the BREXIT issue still on – and will continue to be on for the foreseeable future, things are getting sour. Add the fact that on the running MIGRANT mess, Europe is divided and unsettled on how to react…

On another note we had the annual report from the GSCC on the Greek Controlled Shipping Statistics 2020; excellent!

More news later on; in the meantime wishing you all have a nice evening and weekend and Happy International Women’s Day on Sunday. As always, continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean. Once again, add the Coronavirus effect and judge what’s best for you for survival!!
