Capes dive; is this the end of an unprecedented euphoria or just a hiccup..?

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) gained 62 points earlier on today and now stands at 1,956 points despite the triple digit fall of the Capes… Wets struggle and Geopolitics might take us by surprise… John Faraclas brief Monday recap…

The Capes’ BCI lost 369 points approaching the 4,000 point threshold and now reads 4,071…

CAUTION! Many believe this might be just a hiccup… We shall see tomorrow…

The Panamaxes’ BPI  was up 60 points and now stands at 1,976 points…

Seven plus points for the Supras’ BSI now at 708…

Just a couple of points for the Handies’ BHSI now at 414 points complete a rather strange Dry market…

Mixed feelings with the Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 483 – plus 12 and 375 – minus seven points respectively…

The WTI is slightly up at US$ 40.57 and as said last Friday we MUST  NOT see same above the US$ 40.00 mark… Either we control the situ or NOT… A big CAUTION.

The Geopolitical game gets tough and be prepared for many upsets:

The Migrants still remain the top issue with a boat arriving yesterday from the Anatolian coast of Turkey in the Greek island of Lesvos with 27 – 11 children, nine men and seven women – landed at the eastern village of Thermi… so, here we go again…

Moreover we had 180 Migrants being allowed to land in Italy – they will board another vessel in Sicily and be thoroughly checked for COVID-19. We understand that there was a stand off with the vessel’s crew as well as negos whether Malta or Italy will allow their entry…. All Migrants come from the Libyan coast and belong to many nationalities, mainly from Pakistan, Eritrea and Nigeria.

The Recession bites everywhere but all politicians until now hide behind Coronavirus; shame! In Europe things will go from worse to worse – imagine other continents…

Europe as said is in trouble with BREXIT too…

The faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa with ten hot spots  – please see all our previous reporting, will create a general, a widespread conflagration given the Turkish attitude with an aggressiveness never being witnessed before and also having backers who cannot see beyond their nose… CAUTION. France will never back off from any provocation emanating from Erdogan’s Turks, nor its backers – just wait and see… Also in case Turkey presses further, NATO might be in trouble…

At the other side of the Atlantic, mainly in the USA, things are more than perplexed. CAUTION. Whoever becomes president at the end of the day will have a colossal task…

Mind the Far East with Hong Kong and a possible stand off between USA and China in Souh China Sea…

More geopolitics tomorrow, including the issue of Racism, which …”takes-off” in a very bad way… involving all sides. Don’t bring same though in Universities; enough!

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) anathema, as we call it, continues to spread and also we see very wrong attitudes and handling by the politicians and their cronies to contain same… CAUTION. L I  F E     MATTERS   F O R   ALL. End of the story.

The Greek minister for Tourism Harry Theocharis

On another tone and note we had an interesting discussion with Nea Dimokratia’s UK branch and the Minister of Tourism of Greece Harry Theocharis on Zoom with great participation including that of London Greek Shipping Fraternity. An interesting short speech as well as introduction by the Ionian Islands Governor Rodi Kratsa – Tsagaropoulou. The theme was “The importance of Tourism for Greece in the light of recent developments and the role of Greeks in Diaspora both as ambassadors and visitors”.

Among the questions we managed to hear, due to bad connection, were those by HESGB president Dimitris N. Monioudis’: “What was the reason to ban direct flights from UK but permit Brits to arrive in Greece via transit flights”, with the minister replying: “In order to reduce the number of overall arrivals from UK” and another one, “During the summer it is naturally expected that some countries will experience Second Waves/reversals. How will Greece react?. Harry Theocharis responded: “Greece is ready to react in case of high increase of infection rate in some White listed countries. E.g. Serbia, over 40% of recent arrivals tested positive so now entrants are banned”.

Nicholas Skinitis from the Council in Greek Diaspora put it straight vis-à-vis Greece’s Consular Authorities in UK which must be “reinstated” given that Greece had also a General Consulate serving the thousand of Greeks all over the United Kingdom…
We hope to have a press release on the entire event and we will bring same to our viewers’ attention. Excellent moderation skills by Vassilis L. Zarifis, the president of Nea Dimokratia Branch, sector of UK.

Have a nice evening and continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean.  Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let’s work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is in red US$ 260 (twohundredandsixty) trillion…
