The resumption of the Piraeus-Kythnos ferry line, after its interruption in 2024, was announced by the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vassilis Kikilias. As he stated in an interview he gave to Open TV and journalists Spyros Charitatos and Alexandra Hadjigeorgiou, although the ferry connections of this particular island – as it is not on a barren line – are regulated by the free market, he himself, on his own initiative, came into agreement with a specific ferry company, which responded and the routing of a new ship was achieved. The new routes will start next Friday and will operate every Friday and Sunday, in addition to the 5 routes that operate every week from Lavrio.
In this way, as Mr. Kikilias said, permanent residents, public officials and visitors are served and the request that the local government and the local community of Kythnos have had for a long time is satisfied.
At the same time, as he noted, a tender is underway, worth 668 million euros for the barren lines, which will last 4 years and will ensure coverage of the small and remote islands of Greece’s ritory.
