FEATURED INSIGHTS

One of the most talked-about topics at Posidonia 2026 was the potential role of nuclear power in commercial shipping.

In this latest BMT Insight, we explore what vessel owners, operators, insurers and P&I clubs should be considering as the debate moves from theory towards commercial reality.

Why coal cargoes continue to drive disproportionate risk.

Coal cargoes remain one of shipping’s most routine trades – and one of its highest-risk. Maritime Consultant, Panagiotis (Panos) Kasionis, discusses the operational, safety and regulatory factors that continue to drive claims and incidents across the supply chain.

DID YOU KNOW ?

The first nuclear-powered merchant vessels were developed more than 50 years ago, but commercial adoption failed due to challenges around regulation, insurance, port access and operating models – not the reactor technology itself.
