CGS at London Glassblowing Gallery

INSPIRED

31st May – 15th June 2019

London Glass Blowing Gallery are hosting an exhibition by CGS members with a challenging theme.

London Glass Blowing asked CGS to invite its members to apply to this imaginative show INSPIRED.

Members were asked for work that has been inspired by an object of some sort. In this case the definition of an object is: ‘A material thing that can be seen and touched but that is not a living animal, plant or person.’

Henri Cartier-Bresson photographer took many photographs of Matisse in his seventies, working in his studio; these also captured many of the objects that the artist had collected over the decades. Some of these objects appear many times in his work and he wrote of them ‘Objects which have been of use to me nearly all my life’

The judges were looking for new and original pieces and not just copies of the chosen object.

‘I was hugely impressed by the overall quality of all the entries and it was wonderful to see pieces coming from all over Europe. In the end I believe the judging panel has come up with an eclectic shortlist which contains work inspired by some hugely unexpected sources. I’m really looking forward to the show.’
Grant Gibson-  writer, editor and host of the new podcast Material Matters.

Over 100 CGS members, worldwide, submitted applications, resulting in a final group of forty artists. Many are from the UK but also Israel, Belgium, Japan, Northern Ireland and Denmark, showing what an international organisation CGS is becoming.

The artists taking part reflect the diverse techniques and application of glass as a material and is truly inspirational .
