Aligning with the beginning of the new school year, the activities surrounding HELMEPA’s Marine Environment and Sciences Awareness Campaign move to the city of Kilkis. The campaign, which is being implemented across 12 cities of Greece with the support of the independent charity, The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust (The LRET), aims at informing and raising the awareness of primary and high school students as well as the broader public on issues concerning the marine environment, shipping, applied sciences and engineering.
Specifically in Kilkis, under the auspices of the local Municipality, the Exhibition titled “The Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences” will be hosted at the Garrison Officers’ Club between 11th and 23rd October. The official opening will take place on Thursday, 11th October at 7pm and the Exhibition will remain open to the public daily 6.00-8.00pm and during weekends 10am-1pm and 6.00-8.00pm.
With the cooperation of the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education in Kilkis, morning visits to the Exhibition are being scheduled for approximately 800 local primary and high school students, with associated costs covered by HELMEPA.
Moreover, on Thursday 11th October a Workshop titled “Litter: a problem that concerns us all” will take place (10am-12.30pm) at the Municipal Conference Centre, to which representatives of local authorities (Municipality, Prefecture) have been invited to welcome participants.
Finally, on Friday 12th October, in cooperation with the Centre for Environmental Education of Kilkis and HELMEPA Associate Member, Northern Aegean Sea Canneries SA., high school students will have the opportunity to take part in various activities including visiting the Museum of Lake Doirani and symbolically cleaning-up part of the shoreline of its garbage, among others.
