Lock chamber closure for maintenance works
The Kiel Canal Authority has announced that due to maintenance works, the
New Big South Lock Chamber at Kiel-Holtenau will be out of service between
1000 and 1700 hours on 1 and 2 July.
During these periods, only the New Big North Lock Chamber will remain in
service.

Working hours during Ramadan
The following will be the shift working hours for operations on stevedoring
and shore handling [at Port Sultan Qaboos] from the first day of Holy Month
of Ramadan.
DISCHARGING/LOADING OF VESSELS – both Container and Conventional sections:
Sunday to Thursday
Day Shift: 0700-1300 hours
Night Shift: 2100-0300 hours / 0300-0400 Meal Break
Note: If work necessitates for continuation from 1300 hours to 1800 hours
and from 0400 to 0700 hours, agents will have to book the gangs in advance.
The required work force will be provided subject to availability.
There will be no operational activities from 1800 hours to 2100 hours.
Fridays & Saturdays
Work will be carried out on Overtime charges as per the port tariff subject
to availability of manpower.
In order to facilitate the berthing of vessels without any delay, agents
are requested to submit the relevant documents in advance and liaise with
their Principals to maintain firm arrival of vessels….
DELIVERY OF CONVENTIONAL/CONTAINERISED CARGO – Sunday-Thursday
0700 hours-1300 hours: Normal Delivery hours.
1300-1800 hours & 2100-0300 hours: Delivery will be granted as normal hours
but on prior request to Head of Section before 1200 hours and this will be
subject to availability of staff. Failing to give advance notice or fail to
appear for delivery then the of personnel charges will be applicable as per
port tariff.
Deliveries on Fridays & Saturdays will be subject to payment of overtime as
per port tariff.

Revalidation of Certificate of Competency
Holders of Singapore issued certificates of competency (CoCs) [are
reminded] of the requirements to revalidate their CoCs meeting the
requirements of 2010 Manila amendments to the International Convention on
Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
Currently, CoCs have been issued by Singapore in compliance with 1995
amendments to the STCW Convention and are validated up to 31 December 2016.
Holders of existing CoCs would be required to attend additional courses to
comply with competency requirements of the 2010 Manila amendments to
STCW….
….Holders of CoC are advised to take notice of Shipping Circular 13 of
2013 for the medical examination and certifications…. ….MPA would
commence revalidating existing CoCs to be valid beyond 31 Dec 2016 from 1
Sep 2014.
In order to avoid an expected rush of applications for revalidation
immediately prior to 1 January 2017, affected holders of CoCs are strongly
advised to complete the appropriate training courses and apply for
revalidation from 1 Sep 2014.
