GAC 01072014Billingsport and Tinicum Range dredging
July 16, 2014, United States, Delaware River

Dredging operations conducted by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company begin at Billingsport Range and Tinicum Range on the Delaware River on July 15, 2014, and continue until September 15, 2014.

During this operation there will be two hopper dredges working the area, the DODGE ISLAND and the PADRE ISLAND. There will be a portion of pipeline off the Fort Mifflin disposal area that the hopper dredges will use to off load. At no time will the pipeline extend into the channel. Mariners are cautioned to remain a safe distance away from the dredge, buoys, cables, pipeline, barges, derricks, wires and related equipment.

Traffic should call the hopper dredges at least 30 minutes prior to passage. The hopper dredges will monitor channels 13 and 16. Mariners are urged to us extreme caution and operate at minimum steerage speed to reduce wake when transiting the area.

Repairs to reinforced concrete platform

For approximately 1 month, repair works for a reinforced concrete platform will be carried out in Aberdeen South Typhoon Shelter at the location of the following co-ordinates (WGS84 Datum): 22 deg. 14.579’N / 114 deg. 09.719’E

The works will be carried out by a work boat. A motor boat will assist in the works from time to time.

The hours of work will be from 0900 to 1800 hours. No works will be carried out on Sundays and public holidays. Vessels engaged in the works will stay in the works location outside the hours of work.

Diving operations will be carried out from time to time during the hours of work.

Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and keep clear at slow speed, bearing in mind there are divers working in the area.

Dredging works at Benoi Basin

The working period for dredging works at Benoi Basin has been extended. The work is now being conducted from from 16 July to 30 December.

As stated in the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Port Marine Notice No.92 of 2014 dated 16 July 2014, the works are being carried out 24 hours daily – including Sundays & Public Holidays – within the working area bounded by the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum):

1) 1° 18.335’N / 103° 40.983’E

2) 1° 18.334’N / 103° 40.930’E

3) 1° 18.230’N / 103° 40.937’E

4) 1° 18.221’N / 103° 40.985’E

5) 1° 18.231’N / 103° 40.994’E

Dredging works will be carried out by grab dredgers held in position by anchors. The dredger, with hopper barges in attendance, will have a circular safety working zone of 50-metre radius centred at the dredger.

Dredged material will be transported to the designated dumping ground by the hopper barges assisted by pusher tugs.

During the operation, the grab dredgers will be attended to by tug boat. The tug boats will be used to shift the grab dredger.

A safety boat will be deployed in the vicinity of the working area to warn other craft of the project.

Craft involved in the works will exhibit the appropriate local and international day and night signals.

When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:

(a) keep well clear and not to enter the working area;

(b) maintain a proper lookout;

(c) proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution;

(d) maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 22( Jurong Control);

and

(e) communicate with Jurong Control on VHF Channel 22 for assistance, if required.

Coal loading resumed

Vessel coal loading resumed at Port Kembla Coal Terminal at 1501 hours local time today (16 July).

This follows shut down yesterday due to a drive unit on Conveyor 14, which feeds the ship loader system, requiring immediate change-out.

Cargo controllers’ strike
July 16, 2014, Argentina, all ports

Argentinean cargo controllers represented by the Urgara Union declared a national 48 hour strike starting at 20:00 hours local time yesterday (15 July).

So far, the action is affecting loading and discharging at Bahia Blanca, Necochea, and upriver ports. Other ports could be affected during the coming hours.
