(Birkeroed, Denmark – July 21, 2014) – (Marine NewsWire) The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has issued a certificate of approval for the Danelec DM100 VDR for installation on ships under the Singapore registry.
The Singapore approval follows on the type approval and European Union Wheelmark certification for the Danelec DM100 issued by the German authority Bundesamt für Seeschiffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH) June 30.
The Danelec DM100 is the first and only product so far approved and wheelmarked to meet the revised VDR performance standards and technical requirements as defined in IMO Resolution MSC.333(90). The new IMO standard came into force July 1. All VDRs installed after that date must meet the new IMO standard.

All passenger ships and cargo ships over 3, 000 gross tons are required to carry an approved VDR or Simplified VDR (S-VDR) to record data for use in accident investigations. The new IMO standard adds the following main requirements for VDRs:
- A float-free data capsule in addition to the hardened fixed capsule
- Recorded data to be stored in both capsules for a minimum of 48 hours
- Recorded data to be stored for a minimum of 30 days internally in the VDR
- Images and settings to be recorded from both radars, Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) and AIS to be recorded, as well as inclinometer if installed
- Separate recording tracks for bridge audio
- New procedures for onboard alarms from the VDR
