A chance to thank the players that bring out the best in global shipping
THE great and the good of international shipping gathered in London last night to celebrate the industry’s success stories at the annual Lloyd’s List Global Awards.
More than five hundred of the industry’s most senior executives turned out to discover the winners at the maritime sector’s most prestigious prizegiving and to recognise the people and businesses that have led the way through innovation, acumen and bravery over the past 12 months.
The coveted Company of the Year award went to Costamare having impressed the independent panel of judges with “a quality operation, an enviable set of results and ambitious expansion strategy”.
The newsmaker of the year award, which this year was chosen for the first time by Lloyd’s List readers, went to Soren Skou, chief executive of Maersk Line.
The Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognises an individual who has contributed to the wellbeing of the industry in a profound way throughout his or her career, went to Ravi Mehrotra, executive chairman of the Foresight Group.
Speaking at the opening of the ceremony, Richard Meade, editor of Lloyd’s List, told the guests that the key aim of the event was to support the best in the shipping business, but also the best in shipping generally, from courageous seafarers, to innovators who by their inventions save lives, to organisations that go the extra mile to improve environmental standards.
“We see these awards as a reminder of the importance of this industry to both commerce and social good. At Lloyd’s List, we also see it as annual chance to thank you, the upholders of the best in this industry, for your contribution, ” he said.
