On October 13th, Repasa’s ASD Tugs assisted the berthing of a LNG tanker with great success. Yesterday the two Damen Stan Tugs 1606, outfitted as line handling boats, sailed to the buoy to receive another tanker for their first mission in Equatorial Guinea. For Repasa, this is a successful start of its new joint venture with P&O Maritime.

The Damen Stan Tugs 1606, Red Ant and Red Bee, are the first Damen builds in Repasa’s fleet of workboatswhich also includes AHT and ASD tugs.

“We welcomed the opportunity to construct these two tugs for Repasa, ” says Damen regional sales manager Reinier van Herel. “With line-handling operations such as this, the tugs always operate as a pair.”

Damen constructed the vessels to the proven Stan Tug design at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem in the Netherlands. Illustrating Damen’s commitment to short delivery times, the Red Ant and the Red Bee were delivered to family-owned Repasa in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea at the end of September, less than two months after contract signing.

“The contract is a successful match between Repasa’s operational needs and Damen’s high quality product, ” continues Mr Van Herel. “We are happy to be involved with Repasa and P&O Maritime, who are working together to explore opportunities in West Africa. We look forward to further prospects in the future.”
