Ministry issues guidance to minimise Ebola risk
October 18, 2014, Trinidad & Tobago, all ports

The Ministry of Transport for Trinidad & Tobago has issued guidance and recommendations to minimise the risk of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) for seafarers, port workers, passengers and others in the maritime industry.

Shipping Notice 5-2014 dated 16 October states that the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Services Division is Trinidad and Tobago’s focal point for IMO matters.

The country’s port and health authorities are recommended to take note of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) circular letters 3484 and 3485 dated 2 & 10 September 2014, respectively, and take appropriate preventive measures when dealing with vessels calling from the African continent.

These IMO letters (previously reported in HOT PORT NEWS) provide information and guidance to the shipping community on precautions to minimise risks to seafarers, passengers and other people on board from Ebola.
