Termination of eyesight test service
November 18, 2014, Hong Kong, all ports

The eyesight test service provided by the Seafarers’ Certification Section of the Marine Department will be terminated after 31 December 2014.

After that day applicants for Coxswain’s Certificate and Pleasure Vessel Operator’ Certificates of any grade (including revalidation and replacement) should approach a registered medical practitioner or registered optometrist for the required eyesight test and the test certificate.

Planned industrial action by pilot cutter crew

The Maritime Union of Australia has issued notificiation of protected industrial action by its members working on pilot cutters operated by the Port Authority from Port Jackson and Port Botany, as follows:

– A six hour stoppage, between 0630 and 1230 hors local time on Thursday 20 November 2014.

– A six hour stoppage, from 1830 hours on Thursday 20 November until 0030 hours on Friday 21 November 2014

The planned industrial action is the latest development in ongoing negotations between The Port Authority of New South Wales and the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) and the Australian Maritime Officers Union (AMOU) over a replacement Enterprise Agreement for its Sydney workforce since March 2014.
